Y.E.S. Program: Youth Empowerment for Success >>>>>

Sustainable Development Through Youth Leadership
The Y.E.S. Program provides students with hands-on training in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, vocational skills, and social enterprise development. Through mentorship, practical training, and service-learning experiences, youth develop the capacity to lead initiatives that address critical social and economic challenges.

Abukloi and Words Into Deeds partnered to envision a future where young people are encouraged to transform their own lives while contributing to stronger, healthier, and more prosperous communities.

Our Impact Vision
  • Increase school attendance and retention among girls.
  • Promote menstrual health awareness and dignity.
  • Equip youth with entrepreneurial and workforce development skills.
  • Foster gender inclusion and shared leadership.
  • Create sustainable economic opportunities for young people.
  • Strengthen community development through youth-led solutions.
When young people are empowered with knowledge, skills, and opportunity, they become catalysts for economic growth, educational advancement, and lasting social change.
The Y.E.S. Program is building that future today.

Teaching Chemistry and Entrepreneurship through Soap Making

With former Y.E.S. club members and Abukloi graduates returning to mentor new club members, students learn the procedures for making liquid soap. Each quarter of the school year, they use chemical supplies provided by our partner, Words Into Deeds, to produce 80L of liquid soap. They use 50L at the school and sell the remainder at the market to sustain the program. Some funds have also been used to purchase a laptop for the club to conduct online lessons on financial literacy and hygiene standards, and to keep club records.

Breaking Barriers to Girls' Education by Creating Gender Champions

One of the most innovative components of the Y.E.S. program is its commitment to keeping girls in school and giving them equal opportunities to succeed. Through a unique, gender-inclusive approach, both male and female students participate in producing reusable menstrual pads.

By engaging young men as partners and advocates, the program promotes understanding, dignity, and shared responsibility while reducing the stigma surrounding menstrual health. This collaborative model helps ensure that girls have access to affordable menstrual hygiene products, enabling them to attend school consistently, remain engaged in learning, and pursue their educational goals with confidence.

Developing Vocational Skills and Economic Opportunities with Tailoring Project

Students in the Y.E.S. Tailoring Project are motivated to develop new skills and build practical experience. To support this goal, Y.E.S. instructors have established a sewing classroom where students learn every stage of clothing production, from design and cutting to sewing and finishing garments. The project's long-term vision is to enable students to produce school uniforms for Abukloi and other schools in Rumbek, creating both educational and economic opportunities in the community.

Using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a guiding framework, students explore how their work contributes to sustainable development in South Sudan and beyond. Through hands-on training and real-world applications, they gain valuable vocational skills while understanding the positive impact their efforts can have on their local community and the wider world. Alumni Employment at Abukloi Secondary >>>>>

Every opportunity is made to hire recent alumni to work at Abukloi. Each year, we choose four graduates to serve as librarians at the secondary school. They maintain the library and provide administrative assistance to the teachers and administrators. When we need temporary help with school maintenance or to complete projects, we first turn to alumni who have developed those skills. Our school kitchen shelter was constructed by one of our alumni.

Abukloi Alumni Association is a non-profit organization independent of Abukloi Foundation.

Supporting dreams, Changing lives
